Welcome to My New Home

PrettyCity

I haven’t been blogging much because, well, I’ve been very busy. I accepted a job as executive editor for TableMatters.com, and the ramp up to the site’s launch was pretty intense. To be honest, I got a little burnt out staring at the WordPress dashboard all day every day. My eyes have needed a break from the screen whenever possible these past few months.

The site is still obviously a baby and I’m still on the hunt for writers. If you’ve ever emailed me for advice about how to break into food writing, now is the time to email me again with story pitches for Table Matters! Just make sure you read the site first to get a sense of what we do.

Now that Table Matters is up and running, my enthusiasm for personal blogging has returned! Especially since I have this sweet new online home, created for me by the extremely brilliant and fun to work with Roz Duffy. Is this place nice, or what?

And, now, for the news and updates:

I quit Weight Watchers again. I think the fact is I love food too much to restrict my diet that much. I can do it for a short time, but it doesn’t work as a long-term plan for me. Instead, I got a fitbit, which I love. (If you use one, please friend me there. So far, I have only 1 fit bit friend.) Also, finally, I found a therapist. Clearly my body-image-obsession-yo-yo-dieting-disease isn’t going to cure itself. Wish me luck.

I have a new book: My first e-cookbook. It’s a “mini” which means it’s more like a food feature in a magazine than a full-fledged book. It does have one of the most delicious vegetarian recipes I’ve ever created in it though, plus four other lunch-box-friendly treats. You can buy it here for 90 cents. This is kind of a digital publishing experiment for me, and it would mean a lot to me if you would buy it and help spread the word. If you have ever made and loved a recipe I’ve blogged about–I would consider it a tip and a thank you. This blogger certainly likes it–and she didn’t even make the best recipe if you ask me! OK, sales pitch over. (I hate trying to sell myself and I wouldn’t do it if it weren’t important to me.)

Last month, I wrote a piece on cooking with canned fish for the Philadelphia Inquirer. To my surprise and delight, it was linked on the New York Times’ dining section’s blog.

My favorite piece so far for TableMatters.com is about the website most food people love to hate, Yelp. Give it a read if you haven’t already and leave a comment over there if you feel so inclined. I know there are many opinions on this topic.  Another favorite column there is Viva La Vegan. I helped with recipe testing on this vegan alfredo story and I can assure you it’s delicious.

I have also started a new mailing list to let me reach out to people who may want to get rare announcements via email to tell you things like I have a new book or ebook, class or event to tell you about.

Check back soon–I have a report on a recent visit to Sbraga to share with you. And don’t forget to update your RSS.
